Kosovo President Hashim Thaci who is attending the European Union-Western Balkans summit in Sofia said that Kosovo is ready for the final phase of the dialogue with Serbia and visa liberalisation with the EU. He made these comments attending the European Union and Western Balkans summit in Sofia, Bulgaria. The EU and Western Balkans leaders are meeting Thursday for their first summit in 15 years, focusing on European integration, as well as closer cooperation in the region.
Thaci said that Kosovo remains fully committed to the EU-facilitated dialogue on normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. “Kosovo is ready for the final phase of dialogue with Serbia on reaching of a legally-binding agreement on normalisation of relations and reconciliation. Allow me to stress the need for equal rules of the game now that we are moving towards further implementation of topics which we are discussing in this summit, and in Kosovo’s case this means conclusion of the visa liberalisation as soon as possible after Kosovo has fulfilled all 95 set benchmarks,” Thaci said.
Kosovo President said that this includes the European Commission strategy on western Balkans published in February, as well as other engagements, including the Berlin process, and other forums aimed at bringing closer the Western Balkans to the European Union. “It is my pleasure to confirm Kosovo’s support on the declaration of this summit and the agenda of priorities of the Sofia summit. We fully support key principles of cooperation, good neighbourly relations and the need for sustainable and binding solution of mutual disagreements,” said Thaci.
