Blerim Shala, political advisor to Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, has confirmed that a meeting of the QUINT representatives (U.S., UK, Germany, France, and Italy) held in Washington last week was held to discuss final phase of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and coordination on Kosovo’s membership into international organisations.

“As far as we know the QUINT representatives held two meetings [in Washington] for two specific issues. The first topic was coordination of the QUINT members when it comes to Kosovo’s membership into international organisations, including INTERPOL hopefully this year, and potential membership in UNESCO next year. In general the meeting was about Kosovo’s international representation,” said Shala during an interview with T7 political show “Pressing” hosted by Leonard Kerquki. “The second meeting was dedicated exclusively to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, namely the final phase of the dialogue,” Shala said. Gazeta Express has reported last week that Western powers including the U.S., Great Britain, France, Italy, and Germany, have convened in Washington to discuss modalities of the final phase of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Gazeta Express learned that the European countries were represented in this meeting by political directors for Balkans whereas the U.S. by its State Department official dealing with Balkans.

Shala talking on Kosovo-Serbia dialogue said that Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, is already convinced that the QUINT members will not change their stance towards Kosovo and he is preparing public opinion in Serbia that he can do nothing to change the reality. According to Shala, Vucic is trying to explain to Serbian nation that he cannot change the stance of the western countries which recognise Kosovo as an independent country.
