The EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini meets with Presidents Hashim Thaci of Kosovo and Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia to discuss comprehensive normalisation of relations.
Earlier today, Mogherini met in separate meetings Presidents Thaci and Vucic to continue with a joint trilateral meeting as part of the EU facilitated dialogue in Brussels. Today’s meeting marks the beginning of the final phase of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. For the first time in this meeting presidents of Kosovo and Serbia will discuss on the final legally-binding agreement between the two countries.
President Thaci talking to journalists ahead of the meeting with Vucic confirmed that they are preparing for the final phase of the dialogue and announced involvement of other factors in the new phase of talks. “This is the first meeting on the final phase. It will be the basis for the further dynamics of the dialogue,” Thaci said. He also said that Kosovo will be united in the future in order to reach a final agreement with Serbia. “Without normalisation of our relations nobody will welcome Serbia and Kosovo,” he said noting that Kosovo will not make any concession towards Serbia. “The frozen conflict between Kosovo and Serbia has stagnated. It is dangerous for new conflicts,” Thaci said .
