Thursday marks the beginning of one month election campaign for the upcoming local election set to be held on 22 October.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Alliance New Kosova (AKR) were the first parties to hold election rallies on midnight. The Democratic Party of Kosovo and Vetevendosje are expected to hold first election rallies today at 17:00, in Pristina and Prizren respectively. Kosovo is set to hold regular mayoral and municipal assembly elections on 22 October.
The Central Elections Commission (CEC) has announced that more than 200 candidates have been certified for mayors in 38 municipalities of Kosovo. The CEC announced also that they will closely monitor elections and they have already signed a MoU with the EU which has already deploed in Kosovo an observation mission. Also a network of local NGOs called Democracy in Action called on the CEC and political entities to do more when it comes to raising awareness on voting process in order to reduce the number of invalid ballots.
