Olympic team of Kosovo made historic march on Friday at the Pyongchang Olympic Stadium at the kick off of the winter games. Kosovo is participating in the Winter Games for the first time with only one athlete, alpine skier Albin Tahiri waving Kosovo flag at the opening ceremony.
Alpine skier Albin Tahiri will be representing the country’s first participation in the Winter Games, competing in the men’s downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and alpine combined events. Tahiri, who also was the country’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, became the first alpine skier to represent the country at the 2017 world championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland. In 2014, the International Olympic Committee recognized Kosovo’s ability to compete as an independent nation, allowing the country to compete for the first time in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
