The European Union-Western Balkans summit has started today in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn in a Tweet before official kick-off of the EU-WB summit confirmed a meeting with presidents Hashim Thaci of Kosovo and Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia. “Comprehensive, binding normalization between Serbia and Kosovo is key for regional stability and for progress on their respective EU paths,” Hahn wrote.
In the first plenary session on connectivity of the EU-WB summit, Hahn said that the EU’s Western Balkans strategy is all about a European perspective, but it is a merit-based process, meaning each country has to do its homework first. “Let’s use the momentum we created now and make decisive progress on the EU path,” he said.
